Do what you can do

Some homeowners have the idea that painting their cabinets themselves might be a good idea. It’s a thought, however, do you realize that there’s about 10 steps involved? Painting your walls, ceiling, home’s exterior, a fence, or even a piece of furniture is a great project for a homeowner to do. However, painting your own kitchen cabinets can be a detriment and may bring down the value of your home. The type of finishing – not just painting – that is involved with painting cabinets is quite extensive. I say if you’re curious, try on a piece of furniture with doors and drawers or in a smaller bathroom vanity. That will give you a good idea of how much space you need, how many layers are required, and how much prep is involved. It’s not that you can’t, it’s that it needs to be done properly. Your kitchen cabinets and your kitchen are such an important part of the value of your home that to do it unprofessionally may leave you feeling like you wish you never attempted it.

Sincerely, Karen
